ROCKY FAR CENTRAL ROAD OF VIETNAM
5 days, 4 nights.
Day 1: Lao Cai - Bac Ha - Xin Man. ~130 km, ~4h.
Get off at Lao Cai station about 8am. Ride to Bac Ha for Sunday market. There are 10 Montagnard groups living around Bac Ha - Flower H'mong, Dzao, Giay, Han, Xa Fang, La Chi, Nung, Phu La, Thai, and Kinh (ethnic Vietnamese). We the continue another 50 km to Xin Man, a small beautiful town of Ha Giang province for the night to avoid mass tourism in Bac Ha.
Day 2: Xin Man - Luc Yen. ~190 km, ~8 h.
Long stage but on easy road. The landscapes are very varied, always skirting the border to finish in triumph in the valley of the palm trees of Luc Yen, at the Dao and Tay. Stay in guesthouse, one is smelled there as at home. If the invaluable stones interest you, the ruby rate/rhythm the life of the borough as of 5h of the morning at the market of the stones.
Day 3: Luc Yen - Vu Linh. ~70 km, ~2 h.
Ride to Vu Linh in about 2 hours around the lake on small road lined by palm trees and scenic moutain views. Vu Linh's Dao village is where we spend the night in traditional house on stilts. Superb work of wood. The houses are superb. In addition, the exceptional greeting does not leave anybody "indemne".
Another option is to ride around the lake and arrive in Vu Linh early in the afternoon, then take a boat on the lake.
Day 4: Vu Linh - Song Thao. ~70 km, ~2 h.
Return by the valley of artisans. We return homage to them while passing in order to visit their plantations of tree with lacquer. We call them artisans owing to the fact that they bleed the lacquer tree to obtain the precious substance.
Day 5: Song Thao - Hanoi. ~150 km, ~4 h.
We drive back via Son Tay with possibility of passing by the site of Ba Vi or Ao Vua or lake Dong Mo on country road. Arrive Hanoi in the afternoon.
