NORTH CENTRE VIETNAM
4 days, 3 nights.
Day 1: Hanoi - Moc Chau. ~210 km, ~8 h.
Once out of the Red River Delta, which brims with traditional farming activity, we pass through limestone monoliths and into foothills populated by Muong people. We head straight at the main range before breaching a high and beautiful forested pass, which descends into the hidden valley of Mai Chau where we have lunch with friends in a white Thai village.
On good road looking high over distant mountains we head up into a forested region populated by H'mong people before descending into a mountainous tea-growing region where we spend the night in a hotel.
Day 2: Moc Chau - Yen Binh (or Song Thao). ~200 km, ~9 h.
The road is a bit used and bumpy until Phu Yen. Then ride through wild and thinly populated region (Thai and Muong people) to Yen or ride to Song Thao if it rains, to follow an easier road.
Day 3: Yen Binh (or Song Thao) - Vu Linh. ~150 km, ~6 h.
Ride from Yen Binh (or Song Thao) to Vu Linh, we will ride through limestone and palm trees, on asphalted road and dirt roads, then reach Thac Ba lake where a boat will be waiting for us. Then we will cruise on the lake from west to east, until the Dao village of Vu Linh. Vu Linh is a Dzao village and the welcome is exceptional.
Day 4: Vu Linh - Hanoi. ~180 km, ~7 h.
Drive back to Hanoi in 7 hours via Son Tay to avoid the heavy traffic on the main road. Arrive in Hanoi around 5 pm.
