NORTH CENTRE VIETNAM
3 days, 2 nights.

Day 1: Hanoi - Vu Linh. ~190 km, ~6 h.

Easy drive to on the sealed road to Thac Ba Lake and follow the little road to Vu Linh. Vu Linh is a Dzao village by the side of the lake, very friendly people and the welcome is exceptional. We propose to take a boat trip on the lake to meet our friends who work on Thac Ba lake (if the weather is good) or to stroll around to meet villagers, have cup of tea and chat with them.

Day 2: Vu Linh - Mai Chau. ~200 km, ~7 h.

A long but beautiful drive, you could go down south, following the dyke road (west side of Black river) then cross the barrage in Hoa Binh. We head straight at the main range before breaching a high and beautiful forested pass, which descends into the hidden valley of Mai Chau. Arrive in Mai Chau in the afternoon. Very cordial reception by our friends in their superb traditional stilt-house in a White Thai village. Excellent food. The valley of Mai Chau lies between two rivers: the Da River and the Ma River that make it very fertile and rich in varied landscapes, medium mountains, forest, lake, rivers, and infinitude of small footpaths and offer many possibilities of trek. In the valley of Mai Chau and its surroundings are Muong, White Thai, H'mong (in the height), and the Dao who we meet at the markets or in their villages during trekking, boating or while driving.

Day 3: Mai Chau - Hanoi. ~150 km, ~5 h.

Stroll in the valley surrounded by mountains in the morning. Drive back to Hoa Binh town on karst road snaking through Thai and Muong villages after lunch. We estimate that you will arrive in Hanoi at about 5 pm.
