Hanoi Vietnam's Motorcycle, Motorbike And Scooter Rental Reviews
Here are comments and reviews from our customers about renting a motorcycle (motorbike, moped scooter) in Hanoi, Vietnam for independent ridings. Please click on the links to learn more.

We would be grateful if you can forward your comments to Lonely Planet guidebook
here

Most rental bikes in Vietnam are ways outdated due to high import taxes. A new bike here in Vietnam costs generally twice as much as in your home country. Semi-automatic scooters are cheap but they are not comfortable to ride on long distance trips. We are honest about our bike conditions and provide very limited rentals for self guided trips. Our rental bikes are in fact among the best you can find in Hanoi. Some mechanic basics are necessary to have fun with your own adventure(s).

As we have been very busy, we don't assist in timing and routing of unguided trips. However, some useful advice and straight forward tips are available upon collecting your rental bike(s) at our shop. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

    Hello Mr Anh Wu,

With four friends, we rented 5 bikes 250 cc XR from Offroadvietnam for 2 weeks in January 2013.

All was arranged easily by email, there was no problem: after having the deposit, the bikes were booked and secured.

We appreciated the website, very complete with a lot of useful informations. The guys of Offroadvietnam were very pleasant and gave us a maximum of indications about the trip. We made a loop around North Vietnam (West and East): Hanoï - Dien Bien Phu - Sapa - Ho Babe - Cao Bang - Langson - Along Bay. We were not lucky with the weather: cold (Sapa 4°), rain and fog; More many roads were out of order. Nevertheless, the bikes were reliable and worked very good. These bikes were perfectly adapted to the situations. The only trouble we had was changing 2 cables of clutch. The riding was difficult but great; our trip was a really great human experience.

In short, we say thank you to Offroadvietnam and will recommend it unhesitatingly.

    Hello Anh,

Here is my testimony, I tried to make it as brief as possible. See the attached photo from our trip. Also, here is a link to a youtube video we made http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj04zsGq3JU.

It was my first trip to Vietnam and certainly not the last. My friend and I rented two bikes from Offroadvietnam and made a loop around the North-West (Hanoi - Sa Pa - Cat Ba). The experience was truly wonderful, the riding was great and Vietnam is an amazing country.

We decided to contact Anh Wu for our rental after simply viewing the website. Despite the "limited rentals to clients from certain countries", which might seem discouraging at first, there was absolutely no problem with arranging everything via email nor with the payment. The whole Offroad Vietnam, including the website are very honest and truthful.

Before we picked up the bikes we got a big bag of spare parts and tools (we didn't need to use them) and some advice and tips from Anh, for example the easiest way to get out of Hanoi (great solution!). I'm quite amazed by the amount of information on their website, it contains almost everything you need to know on your trip. The bikes were reliable, they worked perfectly and we had no trouble with them during the two weeks. We had our own riding gear from home. The guys are very helpful, they all speak English and therefore there is no problem with calling them in case anything happens.

Nothing else to add - Offroad Vietnam are honest, reliable and down to earth.

    regards,

    Bartek, POLAND

Mr. Andrew Sachs (South-West Vietnam, ~1,000 km, 5 days Honda GL 160cc motorcycle rental)

Offroad Vietnam has provided us with the highlight of our Vietnam trip! We chose to ride the Honda GL 160cc and what a great bike! We rode from Hanoi to Sapa sharing a bike. The little beast was easily able to handle anything that the unpredictable Vietnamese roads threw at us. The guys at Offroad Vietnam drew us up a nice itinerary along highway 32. We chose this route as we only had 6 days to make the trip and it was an absolutely spectacular path to take.

As well as hiring the bike, we also felt it necessary to hire riding gear. The gear was of a very high standard and we felt safe and warm wearing it. We would recommend anyone considering making this trip to hire bikes and riding gear through Offroad Vietnam as you can be sure that the bikes are well maintained and you will get all the support and advice you need.

    Thank you Offroad Vietnam!!!

    Tom and Sax.

During my first trip to Vietnam three years ago, I rented a motorbike from Offroad Vietnam and spent almost two weeks exploring the northwest corner of the country. I had such an amazing experience that I knew I would come back and do it again - and as it so happened, this time I came back with my new wife, Nash. Once again, we looked Anh up in Hanoi and arranged to rent two motorbikes for a little over a week. Anh recommended a slightly different route to Sapa which turned out to be fantastic and we had a great time, winter weather and all. I can't say enough about experiencing Vietnam from the back of a motorcycle. Riding through small villages during morning markets, interacting with the locals, dodging the resident waterbuffaloes and potbelly pigs, and taking in the incredible mountain views. It's an adventure that you won't forget. Offroad Vietnam is a class act. They provide new, reliable bikes, and Anh is extremely helpful and accomodating. I would recommend this outfit to anyone and we can't wait to come back in the future!

I just returned from an amazing 12-day motorbike trip around the northwest corner of Vietnam - from Mai Chau to Dien Bien Phu and on to Sapa before returning to Hanoi. In order to put my solo trip together, I contacted Anh Wu, the owner and operator of Offroad Vietnam. Anh set me up with a reliable motorbike, maps, and appropriate safety and rain gear, for what I thought was a very reasonable price. Anh is a great guy, extremely personable, helpful, and - ideal for foreigner visitors - speaks English fluently. While traveling, I felt very comfortable knowing that I could contact Anh via phone or e-mail if any problems arose. None did and other than a little adverse weather here and there, I had one of the most memorable adventures of my life. Vietnam is a spectacular country filled with friendly and welcoming people. I highly recommend both the country and Offroad Vietnam Adventures!

Sincerely, Evan Tea from the USA.

    Dear Anh and Chi,

We really enjoyed our short 'safari' (In Swahili, the main language in Kenya, Central Africa 'safari' means 'journey') with Chi. He has a great knowledge, likes to share his views and stories with us and informed us on many things we did not know about Vietnam. We also enjoyed the Honda 160cc, it handles quite well for the small machine but I will not swop my BMW!!

Anh, I could not upload pictures to your website but here is a few attached.

My girlfriend and me rent a motorbike (Honda 160cc) from Mister Anh Wu, from Offroad Vietnam shop last April 2008 and we did a trip to North Vietnam. Contacting with Mister Anh Wu by email was really fast and easy. He quickly understood the type of travel we wanted to do and provided us with all we needed. For example, he gave us extra tools and spare parts that could possibly break or be damages during our trip (we were traveling without a guide and only on one bike). However we only had one flat tire in our 9 days trip, and repairing it only took us 15 minutes in a local repair shop. Unless you go to very remote areas, there are motorbike workshops everywhere.

We depart from hectic Hanoi up to the calm and green North Vietnam. All the roads are enjoyable to ride. Vietnam is perfect for riding! The motorbike did an excellent job, very smooth, a very comfortable riding position and with enough power to carry me, my girlfriend and 2 side bags with our luggage. We are not a very weighty couple :) so we manage to ride comfortably.

About our trip, we rode directly to Bac Ha because we wanted to go to Si Ma Cai, a small town just on the border area with China. The road from Bac Ha to Si Ma Cai is the most beautiful we did in all our trip. If you want to go there be sure to get a Special Permit in Bac Ha to ride next to the border with China. Ask mister Anh Wu about this.

Me and my girlfriend had a incredible experience riding in such beautiful country like Vietnam. I would like to recommend the services form Mister Anh Wu at Offroad Vietnam because he was extremely professional and friendly.

Ride safe, respect nature and interact with people!

    Thanks from Roger and Indri!

    Anh,

I wanted to thank you and your wife for such a truly memorable experience. The entire reservation process was extremely simple and I felt very comfortable about the rental as well as the quality of the motorcycle provided. Once outside of chaotic Hanoi, the roads and highways in North Vietnam were very manageable and easy to navigate. In the event I fell off course, the local people along the way always pointed me in the right direction notwithstanding the language barrier. For those interested in a very special experience, I recommend Ha Long Bay and an excursion out to the numerous beaches and/or floating fish markets by boat. While ashore, I stayed at the Thong Nhat 3 Hotel along the main road in Bai Chay, which proved inexpensive ($15 USD) and very easy to find. Overall, I recommend the experience to anyone, independent or with a group, with a penchant for the unique holiday. I’ve attached a handful of pictures below, enjoy.

    Thanks again,

    Michael
