Why we only rent Honda motorcycles

Two-stroke 125cc Minsks used to be very popular but to be honest Minsk motorbikes are rattletraps. You may hire this Belorussian road bike if you have a good knowledge of motorbikes and are prepared to carry a load of spare parts. We would give them a wide berth - they're liable to break down a lot and if you're in the remote areas of Vietnam you'll find it difficult finding a mechanic with parts/ that knowledge. There are honda mechanics everywhere though. To be specific, Minsks provide 10 hp (Minsk 125) while our Hondas provide from 13 hp (XL125), 13.8 hp (GL160) to 28 hp (XR250 Baja) and 30 hp (GB250) and even a Honda Wave 100 gives you ~9 hp. Too bad with a 125cc 2-stroke engine! Please check out how they are different here. We own these bikes and don't use rental bikes from any company. Every bike has a metal tank so tank bags are ok. Below are bikes we use on guided tours (1-4) or unguided rentals (1-3).

Honda have been the most reliable bike brand for Vietnamese conditions. They have good shocks and very good engines. If you need something on the road, there's always somebody who owns a Honda can show you the nearest garage or offers a helping hand. This is extremely useful when you ride to the mountainous areas.

In addition, Honda motorcycles are famous for fuel saving and for the same cc, a Honda bike can save about 50% fuel comparing to a Russian bike, 20% over the other Japanese models like Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki. Therefore the final cost when you use a Honda is likely cheaper than other brands.

Notes about bike rentals

We provide 90% fully guided tours and only 10% rentals (unguided trips) so we are likely booked out quite early before.

Please note that we don't offer one-way rentals as we have only one office in Hanoi. Many clients asked if we could deliver or collect bike(s) in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City - HCMC) or anywhere other than Hanoi and we are sorry to say "NO". All rentals start and end in Hanoi.

We don't rent bike(s) to inexperienced/novice rider(s) as Vietnam is not a place to learn or test your riding skills. If you want to hire a 250cc trail bike, make sure you are over 1.75m or have had good riding history or ride/own one like this. Even if you send a deposit to book our bike(s), we won't refund if you can't ride the bike(s) reserved.

We don't do 24 hours rental service. If you pick up the bike anytime before 5pm you pay for the full day. If you pick up at mid day on the first day and return mid day on the next day we charge two days, not one day. The minimum of a rental is at least 4 (four) days.

You need to send full rental fee deposit before collecting the motorcycle(s)/motorbike(s)/scooter(s). No deposit refund if you cancel the booking or after you pick up the rented vehicle(s).

Last yet importantly, don't start off on an automatic, step-over scooter. These things have hair trigger acceleration, usually no foot break, and the front wheel turns too easily. Start on a 100 cc bike with semi-automatic (clutchless) gears. The discipline of changing gears means you will build up to speed more slowly, and therefore, more safely. The front wheel is easier to control smoothly, and you all have that foot-break instinct from your first push bike when you were kids. And don't fear the models with a clutch. It doesn't take that long to get used to it, and it gives you more control and smoother shifting.

The following are what we rent out. We may not always have these bikes/gear available at certain time. Please contact us as early as you can. All bookings must be paid before picking up the bikes.

1. Enduro, dirt bikes (daily basis rental available only, for long distance touring)

We rent Honda Baja XR250 at 45$US/day, XL125 (4-stroke trail bike) for 20$US/day. We don't recommend riding double on this bike as the seat is quite thin and not really comfortable for the pillion passengers.

2. Road motorcycles (daily and monthly basis rental available, for long distance touring)

We rent Honda GL Pro 156cc (4-stroke luxury sport touring) for 20$US/day. It is a good urban mover and long distance touring motorcycle. If you rent on a monthly basis, a favourable rate will be applied. This bike has good seat and riding double is possible.

3. Motorbikes, Semi-automatic Moped Scooters (for expats working in Vietnam on monthly basis only, not for long distance trips or on daily basis)

We have Honda Wave RSX/RSV 100cc, Honda 110RS for rent from 50$ to 60$US a month. These are good urban movers, not suitable for long distance touring.

4. Fully automatic (AT) scooters (for expats working in Vietnam on monthly basis only, not for long distance trips or on daily basis)

We rent Honda @/@ Stream/Joying 125cc from 80 to 150$US/month. They are all good urban movers and provide large space under the seat to hold personal items and helmets.

There are also a great deal of Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean and Vietnamese bikes with Chinese engines (namely: Lifan, Zongshen, Loncin, Qing Qui, Lisohaka, Sufat, Halim Kymco, Haelim, Daemu, Sino Hongda, Jialing, Dayang, Detech, Intimex, Fashion, Haesun, Daehan...) Some are so cheap (as little as $300 USD) but we don't advise to ride these bikes. Honda is still the most popular and reliable in Vietnam and when people say "Honda" they really mean "motorbike" just like "Google" when you mean "search". The main reason is not only they are the most popular, but also for quality-price value and the fact that spare parts are so easy to find.
