Dirt bikes (also known as trail bikes, enduro) are great for riding in the mountainous areas where you are likely to ride on rough roads. We own and maintain these bikes ourselves. There are only three models available, all Japanese Honda and were carefully tested for roads in Vietnam. Other brands or models are not available because only Honda is easy with parts and any mechanic could manage to fix it one way or the other. Honda XL 125cc, 150cc, 160cc and 250cc, Honda SL 223cc and Honda XR 250cc and XR Baja 250cc. A tool kit and important spare parts plus helpful & practical tips and advices will be provided when you collect your rental bike(s).

Honda dirtbike XR250 Baja 250cc White, Front and Back Disc brakes, Ideal for Motorcycle Touring North Vietnam

It really is a confidence inspiring bike to ride. It's easy to get seen by car drivers because of it's height and bright single (XR), it also makes for excellent visibility. It goes round corners better than most of bikes available in Vietnam - faster, more lean angle and really easy to flick side to side.

Made in between 1996-2005, Honda XR250 and XR Baja 4-stroke, 250cc are the best dirt bikes for Vietnamese off-road ridings where power is what you need to get over dirt roads. However, this bike is only ideal for riders from 1.85m and experienced bikers.

Today, the minimum a serious long distance traveller would use is around 650cc, most travellers are riding from 750 to 1200 cc bikes, preferably shaft driven. (BMW is far the most popular bike followed by Honda Transalp and Africa Twins, Kawasaki and Yamaha 650 and 750 Enduro's etc). During the 70's most of the trips were done on 250 cc bikes. At that time the Yamaha XT250 and Honda XL were the most popular bikes. However, Vietnamese speed limit is from 25 to 80km/hour, therefore we found out that 250cc is the maximum our riders need for a great trip at reasonable prices.

HONDA DIRT BIKE XL 125S/SE (Four-stroke dirt bikes). These bikes have new engines 125, 150, 160 & 250cc with electric starters installed in late 2011 and are now working almost as new.

Honda dirtbike XL 125s 125cc Red, Drum brake

A good, well maintained dirt (trail) bike is the cornerstone of every enjoyable enduro tour.

As always, this is a compromise between bike purchasing cost (we're not sponsored by any motorcycle company - the touring business here is too small to be attractive for any bike manufacturer), bike operating cost, availability of spare parts, reliability and the "fun factor" of the bikes.

Considering all this, we purchased four-stroke Honda XL 125, which are fairly lightweight, durable, and a barrel of fun.

Made in 2000, Honda XL 125s 4-stroke, 125-250 cc is suitable for Vietnamese mountain roads which are small and have many blind curves.
